Tryout Procedures

Who is allowed to tryout?

Akron-Canton Elite is run by the University of Akron coaching staff.  Therefore, to comply with the NCAA rules, the club cannot give contracts to any athlete that resides outside of the 50-mile radius of the University of Akron campus.  All other athletes are welcomed to the tryouts.

“ In sports other than basketball, an institution’s coach may be involved in any capacity (e.g., as a participant, administrator, or in instructional or coaching activities) in the same sport for a local sports club or organization located in the institution’s home community, provided all prospective student-athletes participating in said activities are legal residents of the area (within a 50-mile radius of the institution).”

Former A.C.E. players are not automatically granted a spot on a future A.C.E. team.  Each player that wants to play for A.C.E. is required to attend tryouts and will compete against all other participants for a spot.  If a player is unable to tryout due to a medical issue, they should contact the club director prior to the tryout date.

The day of a tryout…

Upon the arrival to the arena, athletes will be asked to present their player profile, a signed OVR Waiver & Release of Liability form, a completed OVR Medical History & Release form, and the tryout fee.  The athlete will be given a tryout number as we avoid bias towards or against each individual.

Before tryouts begin, the club director will inform all athletes of the club philosophy and what is expected from players that are selected for each team.

During the tryout, each athlete will have the opportunity to demonstrate their passing, attacking, serving, setting, and defensive abilities through multiple drills and game situations.  At the end of the tryout, the athletes are put in a competitive situation to show the evaluators their court sense, athleticism, and their ability to work with a team.
